Diabolics

Powers:

There are three families of Diabolics: The Astorians, the Proteusians and the Heytorians. Each of them originated from a single creative entity who is their father or mother and guides them to the present day. Each family has its own land of origin, its own characteristics and set of personalities. They differ greatly in appearance from each other.

However, they are all known to be extremely resilient. They will resurrect if killed while in contact to the ground, unto which they are absorbed and immediately reformed within their land of birth or near the original entity that spawned them.

They have the singular ability to create life from dead or inanimate matter, which is extraordinary. More than that, they can combine different matters into one fully autonomous being and carve it to a certain purpose.
They can perform this onto living creatures as well and reconvert them to their own. Whether they do it or not is up to their own current policies.
They are also very fertile and will easily procreate with other species to create fully functional hybrids (who are also fertile). All of this makes them a very difficult species to destroy.

Far Past:

It wasn’t always like this. The first generation of created Diabolic children can sexually produce offspring but they do not have the ability to create. Only the second generation of children who were born from the ship womb were granted this ability.

This rule does not apply to Heytorians either, who have no power to create whatsoever.
Astorians were very aggressive soon after their entity’s awakening. They expanded and consumed life forms wildly, killing to absorb them and moved rapidly toward Angels. This intimidating behavior lead to the First Crash, a powerful attack by Angels that wiped out the first generation of Astorians entirely and altered forever the world’s landscape.

Astorians settled down after this but Angels did not. A second powerful attack was launched onto the Heytorians which caused more climate damage, engulfing their land in waters and freezing it over.

Past:

Left with no land of their own, Heytorians dispersed throughout the world into very small groups to live in hidden communities or alongside Dragons. They did just fine until Metatron launched an active propaganda campaign to antagonize them.

Present Times:

Astorians were always the most militaristic of the three. Today they lead the war against Metatron and his clique. They rallied the Heytorians to themselves, who until now had never instigated conflict but, left with no other choice, must fight.
Proteusians, previously neutral, are now threatening to join the alliance as well.
Astor

Astor

She was the first Diabolic to come to life and is the original entity that spawned the Astorians. She collected at least one Matterforged sword, which she used to unearth a Portway to the Dragon lands in order to further reach Angels with her armies. She is close friend with Arristan.

Past:

Untold.

Far Past:

She originally found herself in a sinking shipwreck far out in the ocean, East of the continent. Her face was ripped off her skull in unknown circumstances and she awoke in anger and pain, seeking revenge. Her wrath led to her absorbing and transforming living beings as much as dead ones, with no regard for life. After the first Crash, she settled down and the destructive impulse subsided.
Arristan

Arristan

He is one of the firsts of Heytor’s sons. Like most Heytorians, he’s seen everything that Angels have done and deeply resents it.

Past:

His own son was killed by Evadrion during her recent training under Metatron’s watch. Arristan is beyond reasonable negotiations with Angels ever since that gratuitous episode.

Far Past:

Yet untold.

Defining Quote:

“Whatever... Constance is worse.”
Caacrinabaas

Caacrinabaas

One of the early Proteusian creations.
Hellhounds

The Hellhounds

The Hellhounds are a typical Astorian reconnaissance unit.
It’s built to move with a constant grip on the ground. When all four legs are in the air, its long sluggish tail is scraping the dirt to allow resurrection in case of sudden death by Angel. Its numerous eyes report what it sees directly to the Astorian who raised it.
This unit, which is the size of a small poney, will go to injured Astorians and provide smoke for cover to retrieve the wounded from combat. They will carry or drag small persons in their mouth.
Hellhounds behave as dogs. They want to be helpful and obey to command.
Heytor

Heytor

The third and last Diabolic entity to emerge from the slumber. Heytor is bright, practical and cares only to see the beings around to live and thrive. She learns to domesticate the animals of her time period and is interested with anything that is new and different.

Unlike her Diabolic brothers, Heytor is sterile. She is only able to create the Heytorians by combining her genetic material with Falkron’s using the birth chamber from the shipwreck that they kept. (Proteus on the other hand, was able to create his second generation of children alone with that method.)

The Heytorians born from the union of Heytor and Falkron can procreate but they cannot create like the second generation of Astorians and Proteusians can. This detail may be connected to the fact that Metatron referred to Heytor as a “clone”.

Far Past:

Heytor awoke from the remains of a third shipwreck on the South-East of the continent.

She immediately begins to study her environment and the creatures that she discovers that emerged from the coast. She takes rigourous notes of her observations and quickly learns the value of the ship as a material. She delays the consumption of it, never transforms nor harms any creature in her sight. On the contrary, she prides herself in her ability to regenerate and heal others who find themselves in the need.

She develops a strong affection for Falkron after their encounter and the sentiment is reciprocal. They live together for over fifteen years, hiding from other Angels.

Defining quote:

“I don’t see what I could be angry about, as long as you don’t take anything else that I wrote on!”
Leviathan

Leviathan

Despite his monstrous appearance, Leviathan exhibits a calm and rational personality. He likes to squat, maybe to appear less intimidating. He often asks existential questions to his father, his brothers and sisters. This gentle giant does very well with youngsters and cares deeply for the wellbeing of others.

Past:

Untold.

Far past:

He was the very first of Proteus’ creations, made from the old carcass of an ancient sea creature forgotten on the beach. He watched every following Proteusian child being modeled.
Narval

Narval

The third of Proteus’ creation and his first daughter. Like her big brothers Leviathan and Syphon, she was made from the carcass of a primitive sea creature. She’s extremely athletic and always ready to participate in a helpful way to the family’s expeditions.

Past:

Untold.

Far Past:

She collected so many carcasses for Proteus’ use, you have no idea.
Old Brand

Old Brand - Fire Mounts

These fire mounts were first created by Proteus in the Foundry, modeled with a mixture of fuel, lava and several horned carcasses.
As time went by near the originating point of the Proteusians, an ice sheet spread their way, gradually lowering the temperatures. They looked for a source of warmth and found several active volcanoes which they proceeded to use the way they do. The fire mounts were a welcomed addition to the family as pets, heating and transportation.
Since numerous of these volcanoes are no longer active, these mounts have become a rare commodity and are greatly cherished. They have never been used for warfare.
Perceval

Perceval

One of the early Proteusian creations, Perceval is thinly built and a little shy but very well mannered and sociable. He has been around and seen many things done by Angels. That won’t prevent him from being as polite as ever.

Past:

He was requested as a mediator during Constance’s appointment of power and watched Angels sign the peace treaty.

Defining Quote:

“Do I look like a joker?”
Proteus

Proteus

Proteus is the original entity to the Proteusian family.
He awoke at the North Pole in a far forgotten land that was mostly left alone by Angels. He adopted early on a policy of recycling carcasses into living beings, leaving breathing creatures alone to do their own thing.
Proteus has a quiet, introspectic personality. He loves his children. He is a pacifist but his descendants are free to decide what they want to do.

Past:

For a while he lived with Heytorians in a Dragon village. He had at least one hybrid child with a Dragonnet woman.

Far Past:

He awoke from slumber near the second shipwreck and has been using the remains of the ship ever since for creating his family, pets and machinery to facilitate absorption of other naturally occurring materials.

Defining Quote:

“You will be the masters of Death, the splendid creators of life.”
Robesier

Robesier

A modern, light but tough Proteusian mount which was requested by Heytorians for traveling.
These black carnivorous horses can run at full speed for two days straight and without a break. They are intelligent, with their own independent personality and will argue with their owner. They quarrel, often growl and bite other horses.
Astorians find the Robesiers to be unruly and mean. Heytorians are very fond of them.
Ronwe

Ronwe

One of Proteus’ early creations, he was raised by his older brothers and sisters, mainly Leviathan, Narval and Syphon. He was the first to be created with a mammal carcass as his base, which became a later trend at some point before fading out of fashion.
Ronwe is the first created Proteusian who had trouble speaking. As an adult, his speech is still difficult to understand.
smoker

Smokers

A necessary Astorian-made military unit, the Smoker is generally a four-legged creature with the ability to breath out a black fog. Its only purpose is to bloat the sky for cover. It does nothing else.
Some Smokers are so large that they need more than four legs and occasionally appear crab-like in structure. They are relatively harmless.
Syphon

Syphon

Proteus’ second creation.
He was made from another sea creature corpse and shows a healthy curiosity to taste things that are never meant for consumption, such as lava.
Tenebrous

Tenebrous

The first set of Old Brand mounts were offered to Peceval by his father as a present, however, Perceval found them to be too intimidating. He suggested a smaller mount and with less fire, a humble request which Proteus granted.
The Tenebrous mounts were created as a result of this anecdote and became the most popular Proteusian mount. They are heavy horses with a far and 360° eyesight that have become widely used by both Heytorians and Astorians for military purpose.
